I would like to introduce to you my new apprentice. His name is Luke. He will be helping me out in the garden this year. He came highly recommended from someone at the Mos Eisley spaceport. There you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. So I need to be careful.
Due to his lack of height he is really able to get down and examine the plants, check them for disease or stress and either give suggestions on what I need to do or use the “force” to take care of it himself.
Here is a photo of him doing some trimming. I prefer to just snip the plants off at the surface with a pair of scissors. He prefers to use something called a “lightsaber”. It’s not as clumsy or as random as a blaster, but an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.
Seems to do the trick.
Ok… I appologize for my silliness. Especially for those of you that have not seen Star Wars and had no idea what I was talking about. (As few of you as that is.)
Not much happened this week in the garden and until I have more to offer you I will have to fill your minds with random fun. Hope you are enjoying it because I sure am.
In all seriousness, I did buy the wood to make (3) 4′ x 4′ raised garden beds. So that is something. Just a month and a half until the temperature is warm enough that I can get busy outside.
Until then, I will have to keep playing with toys.
Have a nice week,

I have watched all the Star Wars movies and enjoyed your post. Had a good laugh, which I needed. It is sometimes very good to lighten thing up.
Yeah, I figure most would get the quotes I used. The others are thinking “what’s wrong with this guy”
Short he is. Silly that. (my attempt at Yoda-speak LOL)
I appreciated the effort.
Haha, I <3 Star Wars and even went to see Ep: 1 in 3D recently.
)
My garden isn't doing anything either. I just look out the window at it and will it to grow. The force isn't very strong with me just now, though.
My seed potatoes are drying out so I will (hopefully) be able to plant them mid-week. I don't really expect them to do anything for awhile either.
I was thinking of taking my sons to see it in 3D, but that is hard when you already own the movie at home.
Yeah, we do too but it was an expense we decided to justify. We didn’t take our kids, but there were a lot of kids at the theater (mostly ages 7-10, I estimate).
You are such a source of inspiration for those of us that love to garden. Time though, may prove to be a problem this year. It just flies by too fast for me to keep up. It looks like you’re winning the battle though. I love the way Luke’s hand is wrapped around your little seedling.
Cute photo.
I am not sure I am winning the battle. I feel like there is still so much to do and that my plants are not where I want them right now size wise.
Patience, my Dear. They will grow.
lolol!
With a large enough lever, we can move the world. Small agriculture is that lever, but a good sense of humor is the rubber grip on that lever!
Keep your grip through the growing cycle and you’ll have what you desire with the understanding that nature is in control and we are asking for its cooperation when we plant seeds.

Always GMO free!
oh, that is just too priceless!!! Love your sense of humour!!!
Well, it’s something to do while we wait for the ground to warm up. You’ve reminded me I’m supposed to be designing raised beds… but perhaps I’ll follow your lead and play with the action figures for a while!
Love it! I’ve had those weeks. Aren’t these weeks better than, “I sense a disturbance in the force…” weeks? = )
I feel like I am waaaaaay behind on the gardening! Luckily I just go to your blog and feel like I’m accomplishing something
Want me to see if Luke is free this weekend to come help you out?
haha, definetly!
I wouldn’t worry. Anyone who hasn’t seen Star Wars likely can’t operate a computer or read a blog.
Just remind your new helper…
Grow or grow not… There is no dry. Plants that is.
NICE!
Great picture!
Just went to see Star Wars in 3D last week, didn’t see Luke in action though. Luckily he’s active in your garden I see, let’s hope the force is with him
In a few weeks I’m moving and then I finally can start my mini vegi garden. I’m looking very much forward to that and will read this blog thoroughly for tips.
And thanks for helping me out, my site is almost finished, only need to make great looking buttons!
Hehee… I have all sorts of little figures living in my flower pots, but they don’t actually help with the work. Maybe they need some lightsabers (of course, most of them don’t even have hands, so that might not work either…)
The light saber probably makes a cleaner cut, causing less injury to the plant. May the Force be with you — and may your plants live long and prosper. (I know, I’m mixing up my sci-fi.)
I like that you told me the odds on liking this post. That alone was enough to encourage me to LIKE this post. Funny too.
Did you remember that C3PO said that to Han Solo on the odds to successfully navigate an asteroid field?
Nope, but it does sounds like a very C3PO comment. Do you think it generated higher “Likes” than usual?
You crack me up! Nice photo and nice helper. Do you get much work out of him or is he too busy dreaming about fighting the bad guys in space?
Wow…nice to meet your Luke…
